Dissolution

We attended our funeral together,
the day of our dissolution.
A scandalous death unannounced
in the papers. No one was invited.
It was a sordid undertaking,
closed-casket, wrapped in a sheaf
of ink-blotted linen.
From inquest to intestate,
the proceedings of our partition
were deposited deep in a vault
to devolve upon our joint descendants.
There were no tears or fresh flowers
strewn over our remains.
